North Warren and Minsmere 13th May 2001

A very warm and sunny day for our last coach trip of the season.

North Warren

This delightful reserve on the Suffolk coast consists of grazing marshes, reedbeds, heathland and woodland. Thousands of wildfowl use the marshes in winter while summer brings breeding marsh harriers, woodlarks, nightjars, nightingales and bearded tits. Look out for the many species of butterflies and dragonflies.?

How to find the reserve
Car park situated just north of Aldeburgh on the coast road. To see a location map of the reserve click here.

Minsmere
Minsmere is the RSPB's premier nature reserve and needs no introduction by us, set on the beautiful Suffolk coast, which is itself a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty covering over 930 hectares (2,300 acres). Minsmere offers a wonderful day out for bird enthusiasts, families and lovers of the countryside. Nature trails take you through a variety of habitats on the reserve where there is a chance to see many rare and interesting birds and other wildlife. All year round, there is always something to see at Minsmere.?

The current bird list includes 332 species, with over 230 recorded annually and 85-100 breeding regularly. This is the highest variety for an area of this size anywhere in the UK. The list includes avocets, nightjars, bearded tits, marsh harriers and the UK's rarest breeding bird - the bittern.
