The London Wetland Centre - Sunday 18th February 2001

-----

A truly historic site twenty-five minutes from Westminster in the heart of London, the Wetland Centre is unique in being the first created wetland habitat (105 acres) to have been developed in any capital city throughout the world.

Designed by WWT’s Wetland Advisory Agency - WAS and built on the site of the former Barns Elms reservoirs, the area, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), had become redundant due to the building of the Thames Water Ring Main. Over five years the site has been transformed by WWT from 43 hectares of concrete reservoirs, into an impressively diverse wetland reserve and visitor attraction.

Visiting

The Wetland Centre is open seven days a week (except Christmas Day).

Winter 9.30am - 5.00pm, last admission 4.00pm
