Wakering Stairs Sunday 08th December 2002

A very cold and damp day for our last trip of the year. The grey weather and mist kept a lot of the normal birds associated with this area well out of sight. The trip was made very worthwhile however by superb views of a hunting Barn Owl by the old train carriages.

Owing to the sensitive nature of this location, no pictures were allowed to be taken so we have reproduced the superb wader picture by Steve Arlow of the Southend Ornithological Group taken just a short distance from our walk.

Also observed were five common seal on sandbank near the bunt.
