Rochford, Golden Cross, 08.15
1 male Sparrowhawk. When we first spotted him at 08.15, he had already made a kill (probably a collared dove), which he was just finishing plucking amongst the ivy, pyracanthus and honeysuckle which covers the fence between ourselves and a neighbour. He was perched atop the fence. Over the next 25 minutes he devoured the victim, spent several minutes wiping his beak on the ivy and finally flew off at about 08.40, heading more or less north. Probably the same bird has been seen here quite regularly for at least a year and several times has killed and eaten a collared dove. Richard Goring.
