1 Whinchat watched on fence along path opposite red hill for 1.5 minutes before it flew into bushes by bench, presumably to roost. Mike Bailey (SOG).

Wave after wave of Common Tern flying up the Thames, most in groups of 9 to 12 birds but one of 57, 3 Fulmar, 24 Seals on Foulness and 58 on Buxey Sands. (www.ladyessex.com).

A day spent gardening produced: 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Lesser Spotted Woodpecker (6pm - my second ever sighting in the locality), 3 Blackcap, 2 Willow Warbler (usually scarce here), 2 Whitethroat, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Chiffchaff (all the warblers singing all day), 1 Garden Warbler (briefly 7am), 2 Bullfinch, 2 Sparrowhawk (4 sightings throughout the day including a soaring pair), 1 Pheasant, 2 Mallard, 1 Grey Heron. Osprey seen over Parkway in area of Central Park lake heading west from my garden. Last seen over Roxwell Road junction with Parkway still heading westwards. A highly exciting and unexpected sighting. My best garden tick so far! Tony Kennelly.
