Walk down the main path from the car park to the mudflats looking east towards Southend: 3 Cuckoo, Green Woodpecker, Whitethroat, Male Pheasant, 2 Robin, Little Grebe, 2 Moorhen and a very shy Night Heron just its head and a winking eye was all that could been seen as it sat in a small bush in the ditch running along the seawall to the right of the path. There were around 12 birders from around the Home Counties all with telescopes trained on its every small movement. On the way back Nightingales singing in the bushes just by the main path along with a Blue, Great and Long tailed Tit plus a hunting Short-eared Owl. Rob Harris.

Wakering Stairs 15:30 to 16:50
1 Short-eared Owl, 4 Red-legged Partridge, 2 Shelduck as well as several pairs of Mallard and a few Black-headed Gull on the new scrape, 6 Skylark, 55 Linnet in off the sea at Haven Point, 3 Corn Bunting. Also Comma, Peacock, Red Admiral, and surprisingly 2 Painted Lady butterflies - both quite pale colour but not at all tatty. David Selley.
