Private Land Near Crays Hill 13:50
1 Red Kite, drifted slowly over at about 200 feet, curved back for a few minutes then flew eastwards over Wickford. Was in view for approx 3 minutes. 5 minutes later a Buzzard sp. flew north towards Hanningfield reservoir. This bird may have been a Honey Buzzard as it seemed to have longer and thinner wings than the numerous Buzzards I have seen this year. The wings were almost straight at their trailing edge, pale and barred with more pointed tips. The tail was also long. G. Dixon.

5 Red-throated Diver all in flight, 1 Black-throated Diver in flight, 3 Great Northern Diver together on sea, 20+ Great Crested Grebe, 1 Slavonian Grebe (winter plumage bird off barge pier), 2 immature Shag off barge pier and adult with crest off coastguards, 1 female Long-tailed Duck still on lake, 125 Common Scoter (probably more, in small groups), 4 Velvet Scoter (at least 4 around the mulberry harbour. Often flew around but came back to the harbour area of sea), 1 drake Red-breasted Merganser on the sea, 10 adult Little Gull (winter plumage), 2 Kittiwake (adult & 1st w.), 1 adult Gannet, 1 female Long-tailed Duck on lake. 1 Harbour Porpoise.
