Hadleigh Castle Country Park: Long-tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Dunnock, Pheasant, Robin, Goldcrest, Jay, Collared Dove, Grey Heron, Green Woodpecker x 3, Sparrowhawk chased by Crow and two female Kestrels hunting. Tony Leader.

Two Tree Island (from new hide) pm: 1 Little Egret, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Red Breasted Merganser, 1 female Sparrowhawk, 1 male Merlin. Web Author.
Wat Tyler Country Park 1500-1700hrs: 1 Marsh Harrier (female), 1 Peregrine Falcon, 1 Sparrowhawk (male), 1 Kestrel, 1 Water Rail. Steve Hiscock.
Eastwood Sewerage Farm: 2-3 Chiffchaffs, 1 Grey Wagtail, Nuthatches.
Hockley Woods: 2 Siskin flew over, Nuthatches and Great Spotted Woodpeckers displaying.
Two Tree Island: 1 Short-eared Owl at midday.
Southend Pier: 1 adult Kittiwake and at least 9 Mediterranean Gulls: 4 1st-winters with green colour rings of A00 and E02 on left leg (see below - Ed), a 3rd-winter, and 4 adults. Two of the adults had a metal ring on the right leg and first character was an "A". On nearby shore at least another 3 more Mediterranean Gulls, so it is conservative and safe to say 10-15 individuals present! Superb views on pier - advice -TAKE BREAD AND CAMERA! Nick Green EBWS.

Two Tree Island: By the side of the Railway, in two bushes was a 'flock' of 31 Magpies! Also observed were: 1 Stonechat, 1 Greater Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Chaffinch, 6 Greenfinch, 1 Kestrel, 3 Reed Buntings and 3 Little Grebes. Terry Strong.
Hanningfield Reservoir: Second winter Glaucous Gull reported roosting off of causeway.

South Woodham Ferrers: 8 Waxwing reported in parkland by Creekview Road opposite Cornwallis Drive.
Two Tree Island: 2 Stock Dove, 2 Little Egret, 1 Wren, 1 Chaffinch, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Kestrel, good numbers of Knot, 11 Cormorants, numerous Shelduck and the usual waders. Terry Strong.

For information: We reported 2 ringed Mediterranean Gulls on the end of the Pier on 09th February. I have contacted the French ringing programme and have been informed that these birds were ringed in Northern France by Camille Duponcheel. The details of these birds are as follows:

Southend Pier (end): 10 (5 adult) Mediterranean Gulls. Two of these gulls had green rings numbered A00 and E02 respectively, if anyone can help us to trace these we would be very grateful. Pat Dandridge.

Barling Tip: 2 Green Sandpiper, 2nd and 3rd year Caspian Gulls, 3 Red-breasted Merganser in creek. (per SOG).
Fleet Head: 1 Peregrine Falcon, 2 Little Egret, 2 Barn owl. (per SOG).
Lea Valley (Turnford car park area): 5 Waxwing, also around the were Sparrowhawk, 1 male Smew, Goosander, 1 long-eared Owl, 4 Great Spotted Woodpecker, at least 6 Goldcrest 3 Water Rail and 1 Bittern in full view from the pochard hide. Dave Messenger.

Benfleet Creek (from boat): While the fishing was very poor, the bird life was probably the best we have seen this winter! Numerous waders of all types were evident, a group of 4 Little Egret and later three individuals passed us, a flock of about 100 Lapwings were on the mud bank in the creek and a pair of Short-eared Owls were hunting on the banks behind us.
