Southchurch Hall Park 10:30 to 11:00: 1 Grey Heron, 2 Mandarin Duck (Pair). Paul Baker. (SOG). Note: We have had a number of people emailing us that have tried to look in vain for these ducks in Southchurch Park. Southchurch Hall Park is, in fact, a much smaller park west of the main Southchurch Park. The entrance to Southchurch Hall park is off of Woodgrange Drive opposite to the Lidl supermarket.

Abberton Reservoir: Good numbers of Goosanders (c.20) from causeway & centre. 4 Bullfinch nature trail. Field opposite Billet farm: 3 Whoopers, 1 Bewick Swan, 3 Tundra Bean Geese, 1 Barnacle Goose, c100 Greylag & Lapwing, c40 Stock Dove.
Fringinhoe Wick: large numbers of Brent Geese, Hen Harrier (ring-tail), 2 Little Egret, 8 Red-breasted Merganser, small numbers (10+) Bar-tailed Godwit & Black-tailed Godwit. Avocet (15)+ usual suspects: Dunlin, Curlew, Redshank and 2 Oystercatcher. Nathalie Schorbon.
Other Reports: Slavonian Grebe at Tollesbury Wick, 8 on Blackwater, also 5 Black-throated Diver. 2 Bittern and 3 Smew  at Abberton Reservoir from Layer Breton causeway.

Hampton Barns to Paglesham Lagoon 1245 to 1530: Little Egret (2), Grey Heron, Brent Goose (150), Shelduck, Wigeon (c.225), Gadwall (41), Pintail (7, 4 male and 3 female), Teal (c.235), Shoveler, Pochard (131), Goldeneye (7), Coot (157), Avocet (26), Grey Plover, Lapwing (c.1250), Black-Tailed Godwit, Fieldfare (11), Song Thrush (3), Rook (45), Yellowhammer. Two Tree Island 14.20 - 17.20hrs: Brent Goose c. 500 flew east at 16.40hrs along Hadleigh Ray to settle in rafts on sea off Leigh Old Town. Knot c 2,000 & Dunlin 1,000 concentrated 14.20 - 15.00hrs by rising tide close to eastern end of TTI saltings, Turnstone c.300 on crushed cockleshell beach behind Leigh cocklesheds and roosting on boats; also in small numbers, c.50 Grey Plover, Lapwing, Redshank, Ringed Plover, Sanderling. At same time could see large concentrations of waders flying around over Canvey Point; with 'scope believed to be Knot & Dunlin mixed  c 3,000 , Oystercatcher c. 300, Curlew c. 100 So total no. of waders on TTI & Canvey Point + or - 1 hour from High Water est. c.7,000. Brent Goose c 500 flew east along Hadleigh Ray at 16.40 hrs to settle in rafts on sea off Leigh Old Town to east of TTI saltings; On TTI  Fieldfare 13, Corn Bunting 18. Martin Johnson.

Hampton Barns and along Roach to Stannet's Lagoon 9.00 - 13.00: 300+ Shelduck, 13 Pintail, 17 Goldeneye, 450+ Wigeon, 2 Great Crested Grebe
3 Mute Swans dead on Stannets had apparently collided with the overhead wires. Huge gull flock on river and Stannet's but only bird of note was a Yellow-legged Gull on Stannet's late on. Lots of movement to and from river and Barling Tip. Note: 2 Common Gulls and 2 Black-headed Gulls had extensive crimson dye covering various parts of their anatomy - not consistently like in a marking scheme. Leucistic/albino Black-headed Gull reported by other birders present. Waders of note: 33 Avocet, 15 Black-tailed Godwit, 8 Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Spotted Redshank, 14 Snipe. Jeff Delve.
River Crouch to the West of Canewdon 10.00-11.00: 16 Shelduck, 29 Mute Swans, 3 Grey Heron and 5 Little Egrets (3 individuals and one pair). Chris and Angela Bent.
Eastwood Sewage Works 08:20 to 08:55: 1 Jack Snipe (the same bird as from the previous few days was again present on the pools at the eastern most part of the filter beds.), 9 Common Snipe (flushed from the pools), 1 Water Rail (flew from the pools ), 1 Grey Wagtail (sat in tree by the buildings). Barling Rubbish Tip 09:15 to 13:30: 1 Stonechat (a pair mid way between tip and pits), 1 Yellow-legged Gull (a 2nd Winter and a possible adult Caspian Gull was seen in Barling Creek but was to distant to be certain of identification), 1 Mew Gull (A 1st Winter bird more resembled a Ring Billed Gull than a Common Gull was seen for about 5 minutes amongst the thousands of swirling gulls). River Roach, 13:35 to 14:50: 24 Black-tailed Godwit, 34 Pied Avocet, 79 Mute Swan (the winter swan flock was present on Barling Marsh), 7 Red-breasted Merganser (5 females and 2 males), 21 Goldeneye, 13 Common Snipe (Most were flushed from various points along the seawall), 1 Yellow-legged Gull (adult amongst the large gathering of gulls on the river), 3 Little Egret (1 along the river and 2 in the field between the seawall and Ropers Farm). Paglesham Lagoon: Adult Iceland Gull on the 90% frozen lagoon. Also Red-crested Pochard, 17 Little Grebes, 1st Year Mediterranean Gull, Stonechat, 125+ Rooks, Sparrowhawk, 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 2 Green Woodpeckers, 8 Snipe, while the nearby river Roach had a Pale Bellied Brent Goose with 140+ Dark Bellied Brent Geese, a Barnacle Goose, 16 Goldeneye, 4 Red Breasted Mergansers, 2 Avocets, 20+ Black-tailed Godwits, 12 Bar-tailed Godwits, Spotted Redshank, 2 Little Egrets, Green Sandpiper, 375+ Shelduck, pair of Pintail, 600+ Teal, 250+ Wigeon, 275+ Golden Plovers. Wakering Tip: Over across the Potton / Foulness / Rushley complex was 3 ringtail Hen Harriers, 2 Marsh Harriers, 3 Barn Owls, 125+ Golden Plovers, 40+ Linnet, 40+ Stock Dove, 27 Avocets, 5 Stonechats on the tip, a Green Woodpecker and 10+ Black-tailed Godwits. Wakering Stairs 14:15 - 15:30: 4 Little Egret, pair of Pintail, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 female Hen Harrier, Kestrel, Greenshank, 4 Barn Owl. Web Author. Also: Common Snipe and at 15:30 6 Harrier species were seen in the Rushley Island area which may be a possible roost. Steve Giles, Steve Hiscock.
Two Tree Island: 1 Short-eared Owl, 2 Stonechats - the bird near the main car park within 100 yards of the burned out car wreck & building is rather odd looking grey and with a square grey rump. Jeff Delve, Nick Green.
Southend Pier: 8 Mediterranean Gulls (3 adult, 2 2nd-winter, 3 1st-winter); 2 Kittiwake (1 adult, 1 1st-winter), 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 40 Turnstone, 1 Little Egret flew over heading north. Jeff Delve, Nick Green.
East Tilbury: 450+ Avocet, 1 Green Sandpiper, Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Little Stint; 6+ Bramblings; Rock Pipit ( no sign of either Spotted Sandpiper or Ring-necked Duck at Hanningfield). David Jobbins.
