Wakering Stairs 1730-2030: 5 Little Egret, 5 Bar-tailed Godwit, 3 Grey Heron, 2 Greenshank, 2 Yellowhammer, Green Woodpecker, Stonechat, Reed Bunting, Kestrel, Grey Seal. Grasshopper Warbler still calling alongside sea wall. Steve Giles.

Wat Tyler Country Park 2000-2100: 3 Greenshank, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Bearded Tits (male and female), 1 Turtle Dove, 1 Cuckoo. Steve Hiscock.
Newport (north-west Essex): 1,410 Swifts South in 2 hours also 1 Green Sandpiper and 1 Yellow Wagtail south, 2 Sparrowhawks and 3 Kestrels. Stephen Patmore.
Great Amwell: 2 Hobby being seen off by 1 Common Tern and at Fishers Green lvp. a Common Tern dive bombed a Heron till he flew off. Also Reed Bunting Reed and Sedge Warblers, Chiffchaff, Common Whitethroat, Blackcap, Green Woodpeckers, and a Kingfisher. Dave Messenger.

Wakering Stairs 08:30 - 11:05: 3 Little Egret, 2 Grey Heron, 2 Mute Swan, Shelduck, 1 Kestrel, Oystercatcher, Little Ringed Plover, Lapwing, Curlew, 1 Stock Dove, 1 Cuckoo, many Skylark, pair of Meadow Pipit, 1 Yellow Wagtail, pair of Stonechat, Mistle Thrush, female Blackcap, Common Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler, Grasshopper Warbler heard calling along sea wall by square concrete block, Long-tailed Tit, Linnet, Yellowhammer, 3 (1 pair) Reed Bunting. Two Tree Island - lagoon at western end - 16.00hrs - 17.20hrs: 24 Avocets, 87 Black Headed gulls, 33 Redshank, 3 Ringed Plover, 2 Shelduck, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Mallard, 1 Carrion Crow chased away by Avocets. On saltings outside lagoon to south 2 Lesser Black Backed Gulls. Martin Johnson.
Around Essex: Old Hall Marshes (now open as of Friday) 0845-1130: 5 Spotted Redshank, 6 Green Sandpiper, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Marsh Harrier, lots of Avocet!, 50 Curlew, 8 Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 adult Ruff, Grey Partridge, Adult Mediterranean Gull, Barn Owl, 45 Teal, female Pintail. Abberton Reservoir: 0745-0830: 220 Pochard, 140 Tufted Duck, 3 Goldeneye (adult male and two young males), 4 Wigeon, 70 Gadwall, 8 Shoveler. Coleman's Reservoir (Witham) 1700: female Mandarin. Wakering Stairs, in bushes by entrance 15:25: Linnet, 2 Yellowhammer, Reed Bunting. Web Author. Also from 17:00 - 19:00: Pair Kestrels, 8 Common Terns, 3 Little Egret, many Curlew, Redshank, Lapwing. 2 Turtle Doves, Cuckoo, group of approx. 12 Long Tailed Tits in bushes before car park. Vange Marshes 17:20: Ruddy Shelduck (this bird has some strange features suggesting it might not be a pure bird - most notably its white head and dark streaking on the centre of the crown and nape), 3 Ruddy Ducks, Also 1 Little Egret, 4 Little Ringed Plover, and 2 Ruddy Ducks at Wat Tyler. For Information: At Needham Market, Suffolk, an escaped Ruppell's Griffon Vulture was reported to the BTO by an observer who had seen the Happisburgh bird on television on evening of June 20.

Wakering Stairs 18.00-20.30: Barn Owl, 3 Little Egret, 2 Avocet, Grey Heron, pair Stonechat, Turtle Dove, Cuckoo. Steve Giles.
Abberton Reservoir: There are fabulous point-blank views of Common Terns (31 pairs) nesting on the raft at Abberton. The raft is grounded right outside the Scott Hide. This Has to be one of the best bird spectacles at a quiet time of year. Geoff Gibbs.

Great Amwell area: A look around the area produced a total of 50 species including Common Tern, Redshank, Ringed Plover, Blackcap, Common Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler, Cetti's Warbler, Reed Bunting and Cuckoo. Also a strange duck which looking in the ref. book looked like a Wood Duck. Dave Messenger.

Wakering Stairs 11:00 - 14:00: Osprey 11.15, heading along the coast out of the estuary being mobbed by Oystercatchers, 2 Fulmar together, 2 Guillemots + 9 Auks sp. (but probably Guillemots), 22 Gannets, 12 Common Scoter, distant raptor probably Marsh Harrier, Common & Little Terns, Cuckoos, 2 Little Egrets, Mixed flock of c150 Sanderling and Dunlin most in summer plumage.
