Lunchtime there were 4 Snipe on the scrape, a Water Rail showed briefly in the NE corner of the scrape and 2 Cetti's Warbler were singing. 5pm the female Marsh Harrier was perched on bushes near the reedbed on Pitsea Marsh, she then took off, gained height and flew into the distance over Veolia landfill site and Hole Haven Creek. Interestingly she did exactly the same last Friday, which was the only other time I had stayed in the hide until almost dusk recently. Male Sparrowhawk showed well in a bush on one of the scrape islands during the afternoon. Alan Shearman RSPB.
