4 Crane flew north over Canewdon Church, across the Crouch and then on towards the Dengie. Seen mostly in silhouette against the light. Presumably (hopefully) Common Cranes. 1 Pomarine Skua in Crouch; gained height and drifted south towards Thames, adult male Peregrine Falcon, Marsh Harrier, 2,500 Wigeon, 1,000 Teal, 1,500 Brent, 750 Lapwing, 650 Golden Plover, 15 Avocet, 28 Black-tailed Godwit, 15 Little Grebe, 2 Stonechat, 120 Skylark, 70 Linnet. Just the crossroads area near end of Northwick Road: 16 Lesser Redpoll (group of 12 feeding in birches. Eventually got good views of all, sure they were all lesser types. 4 over were presumably this species too), 2 Siskin over calling, 30+ Redwing, 4 Fieldfare, 1 Green Woodpecker, 5 Reed Bunting, 1 female Sparrowhawk, 1 Little Egret flew over, 3 Cetti's Warbler (different birds heard from the crossroads). 6 Red-throated Diver flew downriver in one group, 2 Black-throated Diver downriver with RTDs, 16+ Great Crested Grebe, 7 Common Scoter flew upriver, 1 Purple Sandpiper roosting with Dunlin on small beach in front of yacht club, 4 Little Gull (at least, 3 x ad, 1 x 1w). Species seen on walk along River Chelmer: Kestrel (feeding on small mammal, probably vole of some kind), Blackbird, Song Thrush, House Sparrow, Dunnock, Robin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Green Woodpecker, Pheasant, Collared Dove, Woodpigeon, Carrion Crow, Magpie, Little Grebe, Cormorant, Moorhen, Mallard, Pied Wagtail (flock of 7-8 on riverside field margin), Starling, Black-headed Gull. Plus Grey Squirrel, Rabbit, Fox (on Baddow Meads north meadow). At Brook End Road sewage works: Chiffchaff (two still in the blackthorn bushes at roadside), Pied Wagtail (in quite large numbers), Grey Wagtail, Starling, Woodpigeon, Black-headed Gull. 2 Arctic Skua, 1 Great Skua came out of river and landed on the sea at 12:55, 20 Great Crested Grebe, 1 immature Gannet, 10 Little Gull (2 (adult and juvenile together), 7 together (6 adults and 1 juvenil), 1 juvenile that landed by the seawall briefly before flying over the wall and onto the Island). 1 Woodcock (at 09:50 seen resting under the main boardwalk near the lifeboat slipway at sea level by 10:00 it had gone. At 15:00 it was seen flying around the station and actually attempted to land on a chap's head waiting on the platform! He shoo'd it off and it hid under the train. 1 Kingfisher flying low along river towards town centre, Moorhen, Coot, Canada Goose, Mallard, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, Blackbird, Black-headed Gull, Grey Squirrel.
