22 Red-breasted Merganser out on the water whilst on my kayak. All in one group displaying and fighting. Got to within 50 feet of the before they flew off towards Mersea Island. Nigel Norton.

Wren (heard), 1 Grey Heron, 3 Great Black-backed Gull, 1 Jay, 7 Redwing flew over, 2 Greenfinch, 2 Cormorant, 1 Sparrowhawk flew low over rose garden, 3 Blue Tit, 2 Robin, 2 Chaffinch, 50+ Starling, House Sparrow, Carrion Crow, Magpie, Black-headed Gull, Herring Gull, Blackbird, Collared Dove. Grey Squirrel with it's instinctive behaviour to store acorns this individual replicated this by taking a vol-au-vent in it's mouth and storing it on top of a Yew hedge patting it down before departing to a nearby garden. Good wader numbers at WeBS Count, especially: 3775 Oystercatcher, 2405 Grey Plover, 3797 Bar-tailed Godwit and 650 Curlew. 1 Slavonian Grebe flew upriver at high tide and 1 Mandarin Duck drake was bobbing about on the sea with Brent Geese before coming ashore - possibly a fugitive from Friar's Park.
