Advice for beginners on Seawatching from Canvey
Canvey is one of our most popular seawatching locations in the area. Autumn is the best time to see Skuas with the possibility of Sooty and Manx Shearwaters. It is generally excepted that the best times are after strong easterlies with, perhaps, overnight mist or fog but the site can be worth a visit in any type of windy weather. Most people try to seawatch from here two hours before and after high tide. At most times through September you will usually find other experienced birdwatchers at the Coast Guard station and they will provide you with help on identification. Note that you will need a telescope.
