Southchurch East Park 08:00 to 11:15
Four Southchurch East Park Mute Swan Cygnets all flew with Mum to the estuary for the first time. They have been going in ones and twos all week. As always there is a lazy cygnet but that one followed the others this morning. One was in York Road on Wednesday morning, the local Police did a good job retrieving it, good team work all round. I saw them all take off from the seashore near Camper Road at 11.15 and managed to follow their flight to Lifstan Way and over Southchurch Park, she held all four in Mid air almost static in the wind. She then bought them in, circling the east end of pond. She has done a great job on her own this year and the local community too. To see them all in flight makes all the time and work, from nesting to fledging, a joy to watch and never ceases to take my breath away. The 8 Mute cygnets in Southchurch Park should all fledge in the next week. On a sadder note, 1 Mute Male Swan was shot dead in Friars Park by two adult males between 3pm-5pm on Monday. There were some good witnesses. If you have any other information, please contact Shoebury Police Station. Robert Dobinson.
