Southchurch Park East and Southchurch Park All Day
5 Cygnet flying back directly overhead from estuary over Southchurch Park East, west to Southchurch Park, 1 Cygnet that flew back from estuary on Sunday getting a right beating from 2 adult Mute Swans. Taken to estuary/Camper Road for safety, 1 Common Snipe, flushed out from reed bed edge directly below Bloomfield bench then landed other side of same reed bed where the Water Rail has been seen. Southchurch East Pk, 5.15pm, 1 Cygnet flew into S.East Pk, chased off by resident Mute Swans, then flew to S.Park, 5.20pm Same Cygnet rescued again from S.Park at 6.45pm & taken to Hullbridge for safety, greeted by 20+ Mute cygnets that crossed from other side of river to see new arrival, Excellent! 1 Grey Heron flying to estuary over Southchurch Park, 1 Water Rail in usual area and seen running back and forth along reed bed stubble for 15 minutes by Dianne Hyem Southchurch Park East, 3 Teal mainly around same left hand reed bed and feeding across pond, now within 30ft of view Southchurch East Park, 1 cygnet returned to Southchurch Park after nearly four days on estuary, usually they move on after 2.5 days. 5 Cygnets of 6 remaining flew to estuary at 7am and all returned by 5.15pm, Southchurch Pk. 1 cygnet flew over both parks at 5.30pm could be our number seven from Southchurch Park for one last look. 3 female Teal Southchurch Pk/West pond end, 2 Little Grebe (1 juvenile), east end of pond, S.East Pk, 9.35am. 1 Kingfisher (spotted by Dianne Hyem), 1 Water Rail in far north west corner of pond, watched for some time by Dianne Hyem. 11 House Martin around the nests on the care home, so possibly a couple of late broods are still to fledge. Highest numbers seen here this year were 65-75,(so probably more present), in late July. David Selley.

1 Marsh Harrier landed out on salt marsh behind seawall, 1 Green Sandpiper up earlier at shrub mound pool, maybe 1 of same 2 later about at Coryton, 1 Whitethroat along track, c.4 Swallow arrived over Holehaven Creek seawall, 3 Wigeon up from shrub mound pool, probably same 2 drakes later on Manorway Fleet, 100+ Teal all on creek except for 3 on Manorway Fleet, 2 drake Shoveler and 3 Gadwall on Manorway Fleet, 500+ Black-tailed Godwit along creek up to Holehaven Creek, Cetti's Warbler heard over area, a few Little Egret along creek. 5 of the 7 Southchurch Park cygnets have been flying to and from the estuary in the last two days. Six weeks earlier than last year. 1 cygnet nursing a small chest injuring/landing accident on bridge, should be flying again soon. 2 Mute Swan now regularly flying after summer moult with female landing and getting into trouble a couple of times in Southchurch Park. 1 Kingfisher perched and fishing in lagoon south side of causeway. A regular sighting of late, it's preferred perches are the long over hanging dead branches at the far end along right-hand side of lagoon. David & Brenda Hale.
