1 Mute Swan cygnet took off SW into sun from pond with 7 others, 2 left the park area. 1 circled over the back of Northumberland Crescent very low and I quickly got a call from a resident as it had hit the telephone wires at the bottom of Huntingdon Road and died very quickly. Let's hope the second one with it is O.K as they have been flying as a pair. Bad news this early on, they are all flying a little bit earlier than previous years. Robert Dobinson.

2 Mute Swan flew over S. Park and did one very low 10ft circuit of cricket field, you could see they were running put of steam. Cob landed in Basketball court, Pen on Manor football pitch. Picked up cob and put him with pen then chased them to take off on pitch length. No doing today. So picked up pen took to S.E Pk, missed cob he took off and landed on lake, resident 10 Mutes not having that. Rescued cob from sluice gate wall and took too S.East Pk. What a pair, they do this once every year, as they get their wings again, 1 Yellow Wagtail around sluice gate area, 8.15am, Southchurch Pk. Robert Dobinson.

8 Mute Swan cygnets flew east to west the length of ponds, one pulled up at footbridge, two landed in Kensington Road and got walked back into park (one seems to have got a slight knock), one did a full aerial circuit of the park then landed safely back with the others, 2 Teal asleep at the edge of reedbed opposite the Bloomfield bench.
