'Your Nature' RSPB Photographic competition

At the RSPB we understand that nature is vast and wonderful thing; from the flower that's managed to worm its way through your patio concrete to the vast landscapes of Canvey Marshes - we want to see YOUR local images of our wonderful wildlife that inspires YOU.

No need to be an expert, you can even use your camera phone. So head outside and get snapping!

Each person is allowed up to 6 images under the following categories:

  • Camera photographs taken by Under 8s
  • Camera photographs taken those aged 8 to 16
  • Camera photographs taken by those over 16
  • Photographs taken with a mobile phone by any age

You can enter your photos at http://www.flickr.com/people/rspbsouthessex (*see below for how to do this), alternately, you can visit our RSPB Visitor Centre at Wat Tyler Country Park, Pitsea Hall Lane, and hand the photographs in there. Entries can also be posted to us marked 'RSPB Photo Competition', RSPB Visitor Centre, Wat Tyler Country Park, Pitsea Hall Lane, Basildon, Essex, SS16 4UH.

* To upload to Flikr: First create a Flikr account in your name. Once this has been set up click on the 'you' link at the top to add your own photographs. Once you have added your photographs change over to: http://www.flickr.com/people/rspbsouthessex. Click on the link underneath Groups that reads 'RSPB - Your Nature, Your Wildlife'. Join this group and accept the terms and conditions and then you will be able to post up to six photographs for the competition using the 'Group Pool, add photos' link. N.B. when you set up your own Flickr account, don't forget to personalise your profile with your contact details.

Rules

  1. The competition is open to UK residents.
  2. The entries may be submitted under four categories:
    • Camera photographs taken by Under 8s
    • Camera photographs taken those aged 8 to 16
    • Camera photographs taken by those over 16
    • Photographs taken with a mobile phone by any age
  3. Entrants may submit a maximum of 6 pictures.
  4. All pictures must be taken in 2010.
  5. All entries must be submitted by 30th June 2010.
  6. Photographs should celebrate the wildlife of the Thames estuary. They must therefore be taken locally and may be entered under three themes:
    • Wild landscape
    • Wild bird
    • Other wildlife - This can include wildlife that has visited your own garden.
  7. Photographs of wildlife held in zoo or collection will not be eligible.
  8. Entrants must not be professional photographers. For the purposes of this competition a professional will be considered to be someone who makes more than half their annual income from the sale of their photographs.
  9. All entries must be the original work of the entrant. Entrants must have obtained the permission of any persons featured or their parent/guardian if children under 18 are depicted.
  10. The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  11. Entrants will retain copyright of their photographs. By submitting a photograph entrants will be authorising the RSPB to use it for publicity. All such photographs will be credited where this is possible.
  12. Photographs may be submitted as electronic files or as prints or transparencies.
  13. Photographs may be digitally enhanced by adjusting the saturation and sharpness but must not have had the composition altered by cloning or other methods.
  14. Photographs can be submitted in the following formats:
    • Directly onto Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/people/rspbsouthessex
    • Handing in at the RSPB Visitor Centre, Wat Tyler Country Park, Pitsea Hall Lane, Basildon, Essex, SS16 4UH
    • Sending hard copies to RSPB Visitor Centre, Wat Tyler Country Park, Pitsea Hall Lane, Basildon, Essex, SS16 4UH marked PHOTO COMPETITION.
