Friars / Bunkers Park - Shoebury

Friars Park (or Bunkers) Park in Shoebury is relatively unknown to most birdwatchers, this is possibly due the fact that the park is surrounded by residential properties and is in an unlikely location. The Park, boasting some extremely good wild habitat, is an excellent spot for picking up spring and autumn migrants which, in the past, have included first sightings of Firecrest, Cetti's Warbler, Willow Warbler, Blackcap and Cuckoo.

Birdwatchers are advised to visit very early as the park, surrounded on three sides by houses, tends to get very busy.

The first of the park's two ponds both of which have extensive reed beds

The second and the more overgrown pond

To the north of the park there is a nice walkway with extensive
bushes and shrubs

Explore on all sides of the ponds and you can be rewarded
with some ideal habitat for spring migrants
