Gunners Park - Shoebury

Entrance to Gunners Park

Situated at the far eastern end of Southend Seafront, Gunners Park is under heavy development. The Essex Wildlife Trust have a reserve at the far end of the park which is normally closed off to visitors and it is hoped that this will still remain when all the new building has been completed. The EWT reserve is a very good spot for our passage visitors in the Autumn and Spring.

Some of the birds that used to be seen in the park include:

Barn Owl
Garden Warbler
Great Spotted Woodpecker
Greenfinch
Green Woodpecker
Goldfinch
Kestrel
(at least one pair bred in the south east corner of the park in 1999)
Linnet
Long Tailed Tit
Mistle Thrush
Pied Flycatcher
Ring Ouzel
Stonechat
Song Thrush
Wheatear
Whinchat
Wren

A very elusive Wryneck also visited the park in 1999 on the 27th and 28th of August and in March 2001 4 Black Redstarts a male White-spotted Bluethroat and a Serin were observed
