Star Lane Brickworks - Great Wakering

Star Lane Brickworks is one of those wonderful areas of habitat that most people in Southend are probably not aware of. The entrance can be found alongside the brickworks and the main habitat is to the rear. The locations 'claim to fame' is the resident Cetti's Warblers that can be found here (or, to put it more accurately, often heard here!). The area is a very good spot for both Spring and Autumn migrants and during the summer breeding Turtle Doves.

Around the angling ponds there are many areas of wonderful habitat

View across the main lagoon - look out for breeding Great Crested Grebe and Tufted Duck

The area behind the lagoons is completely unspoilt

Ideal habitat and indeed the favourite spot for the Cetti's Warbler
